Bradley Johnson was let go Monday, but it's not yet clear why.

Johnson took over the park police department in July of 2001 after spending 25 years with the Minneapolis Police Department.

Lt. Linda Bergstrom will take his place, effective immediately.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board released the following statement:

"The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has a new Director of Park Safety and Security. Superintendent David Fisher has appointed Lieutenant Linda Bergstrom as the Director of Park Safety and Security for the nationally acclaimed park system that includes 182 park properties and attracts an estimated 18 million visits each year. Bergstrom will assume her new role immediately, replacing Brad Johnson who has left the Park Board. Bergstrom has a long history of excellent service to the MPRB and to the residents of the City of Minneapolis. She began her career with the MPRB in 1979 as a park patrol agent, was promoted to park police officer in 1981, to sergeant in 1989 and to lieutenant in 2006."
