Park Board Meeting
5:00pm -- Administration and Finance Committee 5:45pm -- Operations and Environment Committee 6:00pm -- Regular Meeting
Agenda documents for the above portions of the meeting (in Microsoft Word document format) are available here.
They include these items of notable interest:
1. A review of the preplanning "slush fund" used for paying for the controversial plans for Bryn Mawr Meadows and park police move to HQ building.
2. The required monthly -- but never given by Jon Gurban before during his tenure -- superintendent's report.
3. Rejecting all bids received for phase IV of improvements at Mill Ruins Park.
4. Approving yet another increase in the contracted amount for comprehensive planning to Brauer & Associates, Ltd.
5. Authorizing $350,000 to further renovate the headquarters building and move the park police into the space.
If you cannot attend in person, but you have access to Minneapolis Time Warner cable, you can watch the meeting live on channels 14 and 79.

Comments
Brain Rice is the Lawyer/ Lobbyist for the MPRB and a major funder and fundraiser for current Park Board commissioners. I think it was at the annual meeting when a review was scheduled for this position which the commissioners hire. The minutes have not been posted and I am wondering when the review was scheduled.
It is a very odd relationship when Brian Rice has directly given money and fundraised money for commissioners who then employ him. He raised money for my opponent when I ran for Park commissioner which certainly affects my point of view. But I also wonder if he is the right person for the job and is the Park Board getting its money's worth?
On the Mpls. Issues list Brain Rice made a series of postings around the time of the discussion about the process of Gurban's hiring. The rudeness and arrogance of his comments was astounding and really some of the most direpectful postings I can recall. How could this person be the best person to do PR work for the Park Board?
If the Commissioners vote on his rehiring all have a conflict of interest that would prevent them from voting except, I think, Annie, Vivian and Carol Kummer who was appointed ( by commissioners who were financed by Brian Rice)
Thanks, Scott Vreeland
